The sad truth about the Social Security system is that many
individuals don’t realize they may qualify for benefits on the basis of
disability. If you suffer from any combination of physical and
psychological impairments that render you incapable of being
employed in the national economy, then you may have a valid claim
for social security benefits.
Social Security disability benefits consist of monthly payments
and/or medicare benefits which provide compensation to those who
are totally disabled from performing substantial gainful work of any
kind. Social Security benefits can be obtained through two programs;
Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) or Supplemental Security
Income (SSI). Both SSDI and SSI have the same medical
requirements. However, SSDI requires a certain amount of credit
earned for prior work, whereas SSI is based solely on financial need,
regardless of prior work.
A Social Security disability claimant will be considered totally
disabled if he or she is unable to do any kind of work for which he is
suited and his total disability has lasted or is expected to last for at
least one year, or result in death. The disability can be due to a
physical or mental condition, or a combination of a number of such
conditions. If the claimant is found to be totally disabled, Social
Security benefits will continue as long as the claimant remains
disabled. There is no age requirement for the receipt of Social
Security disability benefits. If the claimant is receiving Social Security
disability benefits at age 65 or at full retirement age, the disability
benefits are automatically converted to retirement benefits.

disability claim, and a dedicated and informed staff that will help guide

benefits that will be paid while you remain disabled.
